On Saturday, October 8, just moments after American R&B/pop superstar Chris Brown landed at the Moi International Airport in Mombasa, controversy marred him.
A female fan accused him of smashing her phone after she had requested a selfie with the celebrated crooner.
The woman who has now been identified as Brenda Chepkoech, alleged that the multiple hits maker took her iPhone 6 from behind and smashed it on the ground as she tried to take a quick selfie. But she was not done, the damsel even went a step further and hurriedly convened a ‘press briefing’ on the same where she aired her utter “disappointment” in Chris Brown.
She ranted how she bought the phone at KShs 90,000 and that she had even purchased a ticket to the singer’s Mombasa gig. Brenda said she had changed her mind and was not going to attend it. She also demanded an apology from the ‘Beautiful People’ singer.
A statement from the security unit at the airport has since denied the alleged incident ever happened. The security report issued moments after Brenda’s accusations, said that there was no phone that was destroyed by the singer. Not even a mulika mwizi.
It has now emerged that the now controversial Brenda is a well known serial selfie-taker. Trust me she can even take one with a goat. If at all the animal is famous. The obsession is that much.
I suspect she ekes a living out of taking selfies.
As Mpasho notes, it can be concluded that her actions to try and frame the superstar was as a result of her being denied the opportunity to snap the moment away. The lost opportunity to caption a photo “hanging out with the CB” was too much to bear.
Brenda, the serial selfie-taker, has previously taken selfies with prominent personalities in Kenya, most of them very powerful. We’re talking President Uhuru Kenyatta, and his deputy William Ruto.
I’m still wondering how the scores of photogs at the airport missed that life-changing moment. All of them!
Also in Brenda’s impressive museum of selfies are celebrities such as Kenyan singer Avril and comedian Eric Omondi among other popular celebs.
Chris Brown was in the coastal city for a show, which happened last night at the Mombasa Golf Club.
