Singer Achieng Abura is dead

She was an Afro-jazz musician

Bad news for the music industry and the nation at large following the news that Jazz musician Achieng Abura has passed on.

Abura was admitted at the Kenyatta National Hospital private wing on October 13 and was suffering from an undisclosed illness.

Her condition reportedly worsened and she was transferred to the hospital’s ICU where she died.

According to a report by The Standard, the singer was quoted saying that she had been asked to gain weight then lose it through exercise.

Known for her Afro-jazz, Afro-fusion and gospel music, Abura released her first album (gospel) ‘I Believe’ around 1990. Her next LPs were ‘Way Over Yonder’ and ‘Sulwe’.

Her latest album which she titled ‘Dhahabu Yangu’ hit the shelves in 2007.

Achieng passed on at 6pm on Thursday, October 20, 2016. She has left behind a 10-year-old son who is suffering from sickle cell.
