Who really owns the notorious Rongai killer matatus? The matatus plying this route have been in the news in recent months for all the wrong reasons, they have gone on rampage and killing people left right and centre.
One of the matatus to be found on the said route was on the spotlight a few months ago after its driver crushed two students to death at the Co-operative University College Of Kenya.
Students were hanging dangerously on a matatu as they campaigned for a student union candidate around the campus. Two of them were killed and others got injured after the mathree overturned while negotiating a sharp bend.
Then in September, another speeding matatu on the Rongai route rolled over on Lang’ata road killing a Multimedia University student, leaving many more passengers injured.
The said incident happened just days after another student got hit and seriously injured by a speeding matatu just outside the institution’s gates.
It is now being reported that on Saturday, December 4, a notorious Rongai matatu christened Catalyst crushed a young man to death during the annual Nganya Awards held at the Kenyatta International Convention Centre in Nairobi. The unfortunate incident happened just outside the KICC.
A video that has been doing the rounds on social media shows youths hanging dangerously on the mini-bus.
The man had joined many others who were hanging dangerously on the matatu when he accidentally fell and got trapped underneath the moving and overloaded minibus, before he was ran over by the vehicle’s rear double wheels.
