Mombasa Senator Hassan Omar has linked Mombasa Governor Hassan Joho to massive looting from the county coffers in a scheme that spans four years.
The former human rights activist alleged that the money was misappropriated through payment for garbage collection since the Governor occupied office in the 2013 General Election.
Omar who was speaking to journalists on Monday, January 2, asked anti-corruption agencies to probe claims into the garbage collection syndicate.
“They have defrauded us through a garbage collectors system that is not working, they have enriched themselves whereas the county continues to remain dirty,” he noted.
He went on to say that the the solid disposal tender was awarded illegally, that it was single-sourced and handed to Joho’s close associates without following set procurement laws.
“It cannot be demonstrated how the annual payment of KSh 300 million was arrived at as payment to the company as the procedure for the procurement was not followed” he added.
