Ben Chumo takes a bow, Kenya Power to name acting CEO

Kenya Power boss Ben Chumo has exited the firm after an activist sought court’s redress, he wanted him blocked from extending his second.

Company’s chairman Kenneth Marende will later today (Wednesday, January 4) announce the person who be in charge of Kenya Power albeit in an acting capacity, even as  fresh the recruitment process to find a of a substantive CEO starts.

“The Chairman of the Kenya Power board of directors Kenneth Marende will announce the new acting managing director of the company this afternoon following the exit of its current CEO, Ben Chumo,” a statement released by the firm reads.

Following Okiya Omtatah’s application, Judge Nelson Abuodha in November last year issued temporary orders stopping Energy Cabinet Secretary and board from renewing Dr Chumo’s tenure at Kenya Power.

The activist moved to court saying Dr Chumo had attained the mandatory retirement age of 60 and should therefore leave office.
