The Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) has been assured the support of the Kamba community, but only if it names Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka as its presidential flagbearer.

Yatta MP Francis Mwangangi said on Thursday, January 5, that it would be difficult for the Opposition to convince the community to support it if Kalonzo is not picked as its presidential candidate.

“I highly doubt that the community is ready to back someone else other than Kalonzo. If they really care about the region’s vote, let them make no mistake. It is as simple as having Kalonzo or else we are out,” Mwangangi said as quoted by a local daily.

Mwangangi reckons that among candidates who have announced their interest in vying for presidency in the Opposition coalition, and in the proposed Nasa, Kalonzo stands a better chance against Jubilee Party’s Uhuru Kenyatta.

According to the lawmaker, the Wiper party leader is the only candidate who can bring together all communities to vote for Cord as he is regarded as an international peacemaker and a true statesman.

“The only man Jubilee is scared of is Kalonzo. This man is known internationally as a peacemaker and he has a national appeal of a man who is not tribal,” the Yatta MP said as quoted by the Star.

He noted that the community will back Jubilee, it at all Cord fails to name Kalonzo as its presidential candidate.
