The nominee for Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) chairperson Wafula Chebukati was yesterday challenged by members of the National Assembly Justice and Legal Affairs committee to explain his political past.
He was tasked to shed light on his relationship with the Orange Democratic Movement (ODM) party leader Raila Odinga after it emerged he had contested for a parliamentary seat using the party ticket in 2007.
Chebukati who is a step closer to succeeding Issack Hassan as IEBC chairman, admitted that indeed he was a member of the orange party but quit before applying for the electoral commission’s top job.
“Raila came to Saboti with others. Since then we have never met and we have not been involved in party matters,” the lawyer said.
Chebukati assured Member of Parliament that he will use the social media to involve Kenyans in the election process.
