Whatever is happening to the Kenyan gospel industry. It has been a topic in many forums for a long time now, whether some gospel artistes in the country are truly in that sphere, if they’re passing the right message.

One artiste who contributed to people asking the questions is Mtoto wa Mama himself – Bahati.

The singer is back to what he does best (nowadays), not releasing hits, but hitting the headlines with scandals after scandals. Reports have it that the ‘Barua’ hitmaker and Diamond’s Platnumz’s protege Rayvanny, are working on a collabo – did you notice the former isn’t  being referred to as a gospel artiste here? It’s intentional.

So picture this, the ‘Salome’ singer and our very own Bahati on the same song… Somebody say FAYA! We have a huge hit in the making. That song will spread across East Africa faster than the Aberdare bush fires. But there’s a problem, what happened to the old Bahati?

It is worth noting that sometime last year, Bahati admittedly said that he has strayed, from creating real gospel music that is. He said that as far as he knows, the last time he truly relayed God’s message was on his hit song ‘Barua’ which he let loose in 2014.

“Our focus has been making hit songs, scandals & headlines and we are not proud of our lord God & savior Jesus Christ. Yes we forgot the “calling” and ministry… I personally feel my last gospel song was “Barua” in 2014 nanimechangia sana kupaka jina la Yesu matope…” he said.

And because he has let loose a number of jams since, we’re going to assume the target was the non-gospel aka secular.
