Once powerful politician during the former President Daniel Moi era, is having financial woes, one that’s slowly turning ugly on him.
Former Lugari Member of Parliament Cyrus Jirongo is facing a possible jail time for failing to pay up a KSh 25 million debt. So much for a guy who had the 500-shilling note named after him.
The ex KANU bigwig, is being accused by a wealthy businessman, Brian Yongo who sought court’s redress on the matter asking it to issue a warrant of arrest against the politician.
Court documents in the suit filed by Yongo’s lawyer, show that Jirongo was loaned KSh 25 million which he had to pay in installments, but stopped making remittances with a KSh 10 million balance.
The complainant is now seeking full compensation within a month, failure to which he will move ahead with legal action.
Jirongo was constantly in the public domain and even declared his interest for presidency under an Opposition ticket, but has since gone silent on the matter.
He had also pledged his support for the Nasa alliance on condition that a luhya (Mudavadi or Wetangula) is picked as flagbearer.
Also, Jirongo’s Sololo Outlets is said to be in trouble with financial lenders including a Sh103.2 million loan at Dubai Bank, according to documents once tabled in Parliament.
