A bus belonging to the Modern Coast which was headed to Nairobi was involved in a fatal accident in Malindi on the night Wednesday, April 19.
It is said the accident occurred near Malindi airport, after it hit a stationary lorry.
Reports have it that the driver of the bus had hit a tuk-tuk prior to the crash and escaped. The tuk-tuk driver is said to be in critical condition.
A statement by the Modern Coast bus said the bus driver was killed in the accident, although the number of injured passengers is yet to be confirmed.
A 12 year old boy who had been trapped in the bus for hours was rescued by the Kenya Red Cross.
Yassin Juma reported the accident on Facebook. He said:
“MODERN COAST BUS MALINDI ACCIDENT
Nairobi bound Modern Coast Bus involved in an accident just past Malindi Airport.
The bus is reported to have hit a stationary trailer which had earlier been involved in an accident with a Tuk Tuk.
Modern Coast has issued a statement reffering to the accident as “fatal”. The driver of the bus reportedly killed in the accident
Rescue underway in the last 40mins by Kenya Red Cross.”
Meanwhile, Authorities are hunting down the driver of the lorry who is responsible for the fatal accident.
