It’s not yet halfway through 2017 but Kenyan-Norwegian musician STL aka Stella Mwangi can say it is already turning to be her year.
Her hit ‘Big Girl’ off her eponymous EP, has been picked as the official trailer soundtrack for Hollywood film Rough Night which has mega Hollywood star Scarlet Johansson on the starring role.
The film is scheduled to hit US theatres on 16th June 2017.
This is a huge milestone for the Kenyan-born rapper who relocated to Norway when he was a small girl, but always visits her home country quite often. She also speaks fluent Kikuyu by the way.
Stella, the daughter of a pastor who is also based in the European country, has been making Hollywood headlines with her EP since it was released last year. She becomes the first Kenyan to have her music featured in several Hollywood projects.
The popular track was also featured in BET‘s Being Mary Jane and FOX‘s Rosewood, but it seems its demand continues to grow by the day. The Hollywood nod is a massive accomplishment for Stella who hails from Maragua, Murang’a county, as it gives her recognition in terms of the lucrative Hollywood film community and key product placements.
Soon after penning the deal, an excited Stella hopped on social media to share the good news with her fans.
“I am excited to confirm that ‘Big Girl’ off my latest EP Album #StellaMwangi is soundtrack to Hollywood movie #RoughtNightMovie starring Scarlet Johansson, Kate McKinnon, Zoe Kravitz, Jillian Bell and Ilana Glazer,” she posted on Facebook ion Monday, May 8. Adding: “Check out roughnightmovie.com for ticket details.”
‘Big Girl’, the first single off the aforementioned EP, is a certified club banger thanks to Stella’s distinct beat and flow.
Also in 2016, STL loaned the track to to Donut Media – an American production house that specialises in producing TV and weekly YouTube content on the newest trends in cars, motorsports, supercars, auto news and car and prank videos.
