Raila Odinga shocked after going to supermarket

He walked in hoping to buy unga but left empty-handed

The National Super Alliance (NASA) chief Raila Odinga made an unannounced visit to Uchumi supermarket on Sunday, June 18 to asses the unga crisis.

Photos circulating online show Raila at the supermarket holding the now familiar notice which directs shoppers to only pick two packets of maize flour.

But the flour that the consumers were being told to pick was nowhere to be found, the shelves were empty but It remains unclear the specific Uchumi branch he visited.

“…there wasn’t even one packet of unga when Raila visited the store,” his spokesman Dennis Onyango said on Facebook.

Accompanying the Opposition flagbearer during shopping was Suna East Member of Parliament Junet Mohamed and other leaders. His son Raila Odinga Jr. was also present.

This past Saturday, on June 17, Raila who was campaigning in Meru said the Jubilee Administration was creating a food crisis to manipulate Kenyans ahead of the General Election slated for August 8.

Raila who was speaking in Maua town during the tour of Meru county which is considered a Jubilee stronghold, claimed the unga crisis is one of the ruling party’s scheme to source campaign cash.

He went on to slam President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto for working with unga dealers to create the shortage being experienced.

“Hii Njaa wakenya wako nayo imeletwa na Jubilee. Uhuru na Ruto wameleta hii njaa makusudi ili waweze kufaidika na kufanya biashara na wananchi.” He said.

Which loosely translates to; [This food crisis has been created by Uhuru and Ruto intentionally because they want to benefit from the proceeds by manipulating Kenyans.]

Yesterday, Raila said Uhuru and Ruto were shedding crocodile tears about the whole issue. That the duo has made no efforts to strike deals with other countries for maize importation.

“Jubilee government is the author of the famine that is facing the country.” The ODM party leader told journalists in Nairobi.
