The Jubilee Party was dealt a major blow after its parliamentary candidate for Kitutu Chache South died in a horror road accident on Friday, July 14, just 25 days to the General Election which is slated for August 8.
The aspirant, Leonard Mwamba, won the April party nominations and passed away in hospital after being involved in a tragic road accident at Nyakoe market on the Kisii-Kisumu road. He was traversing the constituency in readiness for the forthcoming poll.
A man who was also travelling in the ill-fated Land Cruiser Prado and a class four child died in the same accident. Reports have it that the driver of the vehicle was avoiding to hit the child who was crossing the road blindly when he lost control and veered off the road. The child died on the spot.
The aspirant was travelling in the car with four other people who were rushed to a private hospital in Kisii town with serious injuries.
Mwamba’s death puts the Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission (IEBC) in a precarious position considering ballot papers have already been printed.
Pundits say the electoral body may be forced to postpone elections for the Kitutu Chache South parliamentary seat.
