The Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission says all the eight candidates who participated in the voided August 8 presidential election will take part in the fresh one set for October 26.

The list includes the National Super Alliance presidential candidate Raila Odinga whom the poll body says has not officially withdrawn from the forthcoming poll.

According to a statement seen by Zipo.co.ke, the commission said it based its decision on the ruling by High Court Judge justice Mativo on Wednesday, October 11, on a petition filed by Thirdway Alliance Kenya candidate Ekuru Aukot.

In his judgement, Justice Mativo ordered that Ekuru’s name be on the ballot as he was one of the interested parties during the petition which annulled the August presidential poll.

Another presidential candidate, Michael Wainaina, who successfully filed to be enjoined in the case, is yet to speak on the ruling or whether he is interested in the fresh poll.

Abduba Dida and Dr. Japheth Kaluyu who were in the August 8 race have said they will participate in the October 26 election.

The decision to include the other candidates came as a surprise to many including political commentators as they did not seek to be enjoined in the Supreme Court petition which rendered the August election null and void over irregularities and illegalities.

It is also worth noting that one of the candidates, Cyrus Jirongo, has already been declared bankrupt and his inclusion might bring legal complications if it is included in the repeat poll.

Raila stunned the world on Tuesday, October 11 when he said that he had pulled out of the forthcoming election because the IEBC ignored its irreducible minimums which incidentally includes the inclusion of the other candidates.

The Wafula Chebukati-led commission says it will effect any candidate’s withdrawal if and when they receive the necessary paperwork.
