Somali terror group al Shabaab have released photos of them displaying bodies they claim are of Kenyan police officers at their headquarters in the southern Somalia town of Jilib.
According to senior officials of the group, they killed six Kenyan police officers during the raid at Hamey police post in Garissa county on Thursday, September 22.
Also in the display were several weapons and the police Land Cruiser they stole during the attack.
The militants took photos with the police vehicle carrying the number plate GK A 398Y, one they covered with their famous black flag, according to photos doing the rounds on the blogosphere.
The Kenya police service has however downplayed the claims saying only two officers could not be accounted for with two others seriously injured and flown to Nairobi for specialised treatment.
The town of Jilib where the militants displayed the bodies and weapons is considered an al Shabaab stronghold.
A statement released by Kenya police said the camp in Garissa was attacked by about 50 militants in two Land Cruisers.
The statement went on to add that the militants retreated after officers in the camp engaged them in a fierce gunfight.
The militants, however returned later with reinforcement in a lorry and used three bombs to completely destroy tents in the camp.
Kenyan government has launched an operation to flush out the militants using GSU officers who are using land and air surveillance.
