Waithira Muithirania, Jeff Kuria leave Inooro FM

Listeners of one of country’s top vernacular radio station are yet to absorb the shock after it emerged the station’s biggest talents had tendered their resignation letters.

The Royal Media Services-owned Inooro FM is one of Kenya’s most-listened to vernacular stations and transmits it broadcast in the Kikuyu language.

It is said that Waithira Muithirania who is one of the pioneers at the station, first tendered her resignation and was followed shortly by Jeff Kuria and Nderitu Waihura.

It is believed that the station’s new competition – Gukena FM – had given Kuria an offer but he had been non committal on the same. A section of the media now reports that he might be joining the said radio station after all.

Although no information has been forthcoming where the trio are headed, speculation is rife that they might be on their way to a rival station or even join politics.

It will be remembered that towards the end of last year, Njogu Wa Njoroge who is considered as one of the biggest radio presenters in Kenya, was poached from Kameme by Gukena.

Another of vernacular greats – Njoki wa Mburu – was also joined Gukena FM family which was recently launched by Radio Africa which seeks to capture a bite of the lucrative vernacular cake.
