Male MP aspirant charged with attempting to rape man

Maragua parliamentary hopeful, Sam Wairimu, who is vying on an independent ticket, is set to appear in court today (Tuesday, July 24) after he was apprehended last night.

According to Kandara police boss Gregory Mutiso, Wairimu was arrested after a complaint was filed against him by a suspect, who had been arrested earlier for allegedly assaulting him.

It all started last week when the aspirant who is vying in the forthcoming polls, was rescued by police officers at 5.30am at a lodging in Kenol town after he made a distress call.

Wairimu was reportedly bleeding profusely when the police arrived and broke into the room, Mutiso said.

The police boss added that the parliamentary aspirant was rushed to a hospital in Kenol for treatment while the suspected culprit was taken to Kabati Police Station.

“At the police station the suspect narrated why he was fighting the candidate,” Mutiso said adding that he accused Wairimu of trying to sodomise him.

He added that they (police) had to wait for Wairimu to stabilise before arresting him, that he will now face sodomy charges and and his accuser physical assault charges.

Wairimu has denied the allegations and has given a different account of what happened on that fateful night, saying the whole ordeal was as a result of political wars from his rivals whom he noted had become jittery thanks to his rising political star.

He said that unknown persons broke into a hotel room where he was spending the night and starteded to beat him up with a wooden bar that had nails on it.

He added that neighbours who responded to his screams locked the lodging door from outside, leaving him inside with his attacker as they called the police for help.

The two sustained injuries during the incident.
