Bring it on, Uhuru allies tell Raila Odinga on petition

Jubilee Party leaders are upbeat, hours after the National Super Alliance (NASA) leader Raila Odinga, said he will contest presidential election results in Kenya’s highest court.

Raila and his allies said Nasa had a change of heart after government started blocking other channels citing the recent crackdown on NGOs.

This after all observer missions involved in the elections, backing IEBC’s verdict that Uhuru Kenyatta won the race fair and square.

“Everybody, the voices of reason, have been urging those not satisfied with the outcome of the polls to petition in court. Let their lawyers now bring the evidence before court and I am certain our lawyers and those from IEBC will counter all the evidence they come up with,” said Duale.

The Majority Leader of the National Assembly was however critical of Raila who appeared to intimidate the Supreme Court judges even before he files his petition. The deadline for doing so in Friday, August 18 after which the judges will make a determination in two week’s time.

Citing Raila’s claim that the petition will provide the judges an avenue to redeem themselves after the court dismissed his 2013 petition, the MP said the former Prime Minister was intimidating the judicial officers.

Another of Uhuru’s key allies, Senate Majority Leader Kithure Kindiki, also exuded confidence that Jubilee will come out victorious in the looming court battle, maintaining that President Uhuru Kenyatta had won the election fairly.

“We have been ready for NASA any day, any time, anywhere. Even if there is any other court they will wish to go after losing in the Supreme Court, we are ready for them. Even if its before an international court,” Kindiki said as quoted by the Standard.

Kindiki who retained his Tharaka Nithi Senate seat in the just concluded polls, described Nasa’s petition as a “case to nowhere.” According to him, the court process will only prolong their “definite loss”, which was sealed decisively through the ballot.
