A Member of County Assembly’s choice of dressing; body hugging little black dress that reached the knees (when standing) with a see-through fabric at her bosom and paired with a flower patterned sleeveless kimono, has landed her in hot soup.
It was a normal day for Beth Nyawira who opted to show up at work dressed in sleeveless clothes and slippers commonly known as Maasai sandals, but little did she know how her day on Tuesday, October 17, would be dramatic to say the least.
Nyawira who is a nominated MCA was in a committee meeting where the nominee for Youth, Sports and Social Services, Sheila Githaiga, was appearing for vetting.
No sooner had she risen to object Githaiga’s nomination, than the Speaker rebuked her after Kirimukuyu county rep Anthony Ndagita took issue with her dressing.
Speaker John Kaguchia found that Nyawira had breached house rules and ordered a Sergeant at Arms escort her out of the chamber.
Nyeri County Assembly has been in the news lately as male MCAs bash their female counterparts’ dress code during sessions.
The issue was first raised by Karatina Ward MCA Watson Mburungo who said the women’s dressing was becoming a distraction to their male colleagues.
The Speaker ruled that no one would be allowed into the Assembly if the Sergeant at Arms’ opinion was that they are dressed indecently.
