AFC Leopards Threaten Legal Action Against Assault Allegations on Club Chairman Dan Shikanda
AFC Leopards have issued a stern warning of pursuing legal action in response to recent claims implicating their club chairman, Dan Shikanda, in an assault case involving a fan and an alleged threat to a journalist following last week’s game against Posta Rangers.
Reports emerged that Shikanda had allegedly assaulted a fan named Steve Mungo and had also reportedly threatened John Ashihundu, a reporter from the Nation Media Group, after AFC Leopards’ FKF Premier League match against Posta Rangers over the past weekend.
It was suggested that Shikanda’s discontent stemmed from the journalist’s coverage, which he perceived as “negative stories” about the club. Nevertheless, AFC Leopards have swiftly discredited these reports, labeling them as malicious attempts aimed at sowing discord within the club’s management.
In a statement released on Friday, the club asserted, “Our attention has been drawn to a recent media report dated and published on 16th November 2023, and circulated internationally and nationally, alleging that our esteemed chairman, Dr. Dan Shikanda, assaulted a fan and further threatened a journalist following the club’s draw against Posta Rangers on Saturday, 11th November 2023.”
“The club wishes to categorically state that the said allegations remain false and baseless, and we call upon members of the public who are familiar with the events of the day to come forward and assist the club as we initiate an internal investigation into the matter with the intention of pursuing legal action against those responsible for propagating these unfounded allegations.”
“We believe that the allegations made are libelous, both against the chairman and the club. The timing of these allegations is steeped in malice, with the intent to undermine trust in the management and leadership of the club, potentially plunging the club into chaos for the benefit of a few detractors seeking to score cheap political points.”
AFC Leopards played to a 1-1 draw against Posta Rangers, despite having numerous opportunities to secure their second win of the season. Some fans expressed their frustration, directing it towards match officials, whom they accused of “poor officiating.”
Dan Shikanda has been under scrutiny due to AFC Leopards’ sluggish start to the season, leaving the club in a lower position on the table after recording just one win, six draws, and four losses.
