AFC Leopards Unveil Award Categories for Inaugural End of Season Gala

AFC Leopards have announced the award categories that will be contested during the club’s inaugural end-of-season gala on August 21.

The gala will feature five categories, marking the first time the club has hosted such an event. The highly anticipated Player of the Season award will see winger Cliffton Miheso, defenders Kayci Odhiambo and Vincent Mahiga, and midfielder Victor Omune compete for the top honor.

In addition to the Player of the Season, four other categories have been unveiled. The Players’ Player of the Season award will be determined by the votes of the players and the technical bench, with the player receiving the most votes winning. In the event of a tie, the technical bench will have the final say. The remaining categories are Fans’ Player of the Season, Fan of the Year, and Branch of the Year, all of which will be decided by supporters through an online poll.

The Player of the Season award is expected to attract the most attention, as all four nominees played crucial roles in AFC Leopards’ impressive fifth-place finish in the league.

Miheso was the team’s most creative force last season, leading the club in assists and contributing two league goals. Defenders Odhiambo and Mahiga were instrumental in making Leopards one of the toughest teams to break down, helping the club achieve the second-best defensive record in the league with only 23 goals conceded, just three more than champions Gor Mahia.

Midfielder Omune is considered a strong contender for the award, having been Ingwe’s top scorer with eight goals across all competitions. In a challenging season where goals were hard to come by, Omune’s key strikes were crucial in turning the team’s fortunes around, particularly at the start of the year.
