Gor Mahia is determined to keep their unbeaten record intact as they prepare to face Bidco United in an upcoming FKF Premier League match. Bidco United, based in Thika, has faced six unsuccessful attempts to defeat Gor Mahia in previous encounters.
K’Ogalo has displayed their strength with consecutive victories against AFC Leopards and Tusker FC, positioning them second on the league table with 15 points, trailing only one point behind the league leaders, Posta Rangers.
After two consecutive draws against Kakamega Homeboyz and KCB, doubts began to emerge. However, Jonathan McKinstry’s squad responded with wins over their rivals. While their performance has not always been brilliant, they have consistently achieved their objective.
“Any time you watch Gor play, apart from just winning, they are controlling the game. Most teams in Kenya don’t know how to control the game, and Gor is doing it very well,” said former Gor player and assistant coach Sammy ‘Pamzo’ Omollo after their recent win over Tusker.
“Even if they don’t play well, there are some matches Gor do not play well, but they are getting three points which is important. Gor can string more than eight touches consecutively.”
This endorsement is likely concerning for Bidco United, who have not secured a victory against Gor Mahia in their six previous encounters. Among these matches, Gor Mahia has won three, and the other three have ended in 1-1 draws. Last season, Gor Mahia won both home and away matches against Bidco United, with a 2-1 victory in Thika and a 1-0 win in the return leg, which boosts their confidence.
Nevertheless, Bidco United has had a promising start to the season, currently sitting in sixth place on the league table with 10 points from two wins, four draws, and one loss. They have maintained three clean sheets, including two from their recent matches against Bandari and Murang’a Seal, as well as one against the league leaders, Posta Rangers. This solid defensive performance gives Anthony Akhulia’s side belief that they can achieve a positive result against Gor Mahia.
It would not be surprising if Bidco United employs a strategy to frustrate Gor Mahia by neutralizing their threats in an attempt to secure at least one point, or even a victory.
Gor Mahia will be without defender Emery Bayisenge due to a calf injury, and veteran midfielder Ernest Wendo, who is suffering from the flu, will also be unavailable. However, McKinstry hopes to harness the support of the fans at Kasarani Stadium.
“The supporters coming in have had an influence on the game, it gives players extra motivation, extra energy because there are moments in games when you feel a little tired when the game is intense, and when supporters are there driving you forward, they can be that shot of energy you need to make the difference and collect the three points,” McKinstry emphasized.
The upcoming clash between Gor Mahia and Bidco United promises to be an exciting battle as both teams seek to achieve their respective objectives in the FKF Premier League.
