Chelsea vs Bournemouth Prediction: 14/1/2025

Chelsea has shown notable improvement under Enzo Maresca this season after two underwhelming campaigns. While they are no longer in the race for the Premier League title, they remain strong contenders for a Champions League qualification spot.

Currently ranked 4th, narrowly ahead of 5th place, Chelsea has faced a challenging spell, going winless in their last four matches. This run includes defeats to Fulham (1-2) and Ipswich (0-2) and draws against Everton (0-0) and Crystal Palace (1-1). Last weekend, they faced Morecambe in the FA Cup.

Bournemouth, on the other hand, has exceeded expectations, sitting 7th in the league and trailing Chelsea by just three points. With European qualification within reach, they are in remarkable form, unbeaten in their last eight league matches with five wins and three draws.

Recent results include stalemates against Crystal Palace (0-0) and Fulham (2-2) and a narrow 1-0 victory over Everton. Bournemouth also competed against West Bromwich in the FA Cup last weekend.

Chelsea is dealing with several injury challenges. Defenders Wesley Fofana and Benoît Badiashile remain sidelined, along with talented midfielder Roméo Lavia. Additional absentees include Chukwuemeka, Dewsbury-Hall, and Kellyman, while Mykhaylo Mudryk is suspended.

Cole Palmer, enjoying a stellar season with 13 goals and 6 assists, is expected to be a key player, supported by Nicolas Jackson, who has 9 goals and 3 assists. Christopher Nkunku, despite limited league action, may also feature in the lineup.

Bournemouth is also managing injury setbacks. Key defenders Marcos Senesi, Adam Smith, and Marcos Araujo are unavailable, while backup forward Enes Ünal is out.

The status of wingers Luis Sinisterra and Marcus Tavernier, as well as midfielder Scott, remains uncertain. Nevertheless, Bournemouth’s attacking options remain strong with Dango Ouattara (3 goals, 3 assists), Justin Kluivert (6 goals, 2 assists), Antoine Semenyo (5 goals, 2 assists), and Evanilson (5 goals).

Prediction

Chelsea has struggled with consistency at Stamford Bridge, recording three wins, four draws, and three losses in their last ten league matches, with all games featuring fewer than 3.5 goals. Similarly, Bournemouth’s recent away fixtures have also predominantly seen under 3.5 goals. A tightly contested match is anticipated.

Prediction: Chelsea 1-1 Bournemouth
