Striker Chris Ochieng of Gor Mahia is aspiring for the team to continue their undefeated streak throughout the season, mirroring the club’s achievements in 1976 and 2015.
Currently leading the FKF Premier League, Gor Mahia is the only team that hasn’t lost a match this season, achieving seven wins and the same number of draws, accumulating 28 points, narrowly ahead of Kakamega Homeboyz.
Ochieng credits their successful start to thorough preparation and the team’s overall quality. He is hopeful that they can match the unbeaten records of the 1976 and 2015 teams.
Ochieng believes playing alongside talented teammates elevates his game, emphasizing the importance of effort and consistency. He also noted that their strategy is to take one game at a time, aiming for an unbeaten season.
He acknowledges the intense competition for playing time, especially among forwards like league top scorer Benson Omala. Having joined Gor Mahia in the off-season, particularly in the absence of injured Patrick Kaddu, Ochieng is waiting for his chance to prove himself.
Ochieng stresses that for a striker, scoring is crucial, but he is ready to capitalize on any opportunity to play.
Gor Mahia’s upcoming fixture is an away game against FC Talanta, which will take place at Kakamega’s Bukhungu Stadium, despite FC Talanta being based in Nairobi. Ochieng expresses that the team’s focus is solely on the game’s outcome, regardless of the venue, as they prepare to face both away and home teams.
