Harambee Stars’ Defender Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma Close to Major Transfer from AIK Amid Interest from Top European Clubs
Erick ‘Marcelo’ Ouma, a key defender for the Harambee Stars, is on the cusp of a major transfer from Swedish football giant AIK to Poland’s premier league team, Rakow Czestochowa.
Amid heightened interest from various top-tier European clubs, this move signifies a crucial turning point in Ouma’s distinguished career. His exceptional performances at AIK have drawn the eyes of clubs throughout Europe, including Spain’s Espanyol.
Nevertheless, Rakow Czestochowa, the reigning champions of Poland, appear to be in the lead to acquire his talents. According to Sportbladet, negotiations between the Polish team and AIK are nearing completion, with both sides optimistic about a favorable conclusion.
Pulse Sports previously indicated AIK’s plans to sell Otieno this winter, and it now appears these plans are materializing.
AIK’s sporting director Thomas Berntsen has acknowledged the impending transfer, stating, “It’s a loss for us to let him go, but it’s also thrilling. He deserved this opportunity, perhaps even a couple of years earlier. Presently, we expect to receive a fair price for him, and he will be able to secure a future for himself and his family.”
Otieno’s tenure at AIK has been outstanding, racking up 99 appearances. While his departure is a setback for AIK, it paves the way for Axel Björnström, nicknamed ‘Acke’, to assume the primary role.
Berntsen remarked on this transition, saying, “Erick has been excellent, but we’re confident that ‘Acke’ can deliver high-quality performances for us, though he will encounter stiff competition.”
Rakow Czestochowa’s pursuit of Otieno underscores his rising stature in European football. The club, currently positioned fourth in the Polish league, aims to strengthen its defense and views Otieno as a crucial addition.
This transfer, if finalized, represents not only a significant career advancement for Otieno but also a major financial gain for AIK, with Vasalund, his previous club, set to receive 30 percent of the transfer fee.
