The set-piece specialist is of the opinion that a draw would have been a fairer outcome, given that the FKF Cup holders suffered a 1-0 defeat against Kariobangi Sharks. Kakamega Homeboyz midfielder Estone Esiye expressed his frustration with the team’s inability to capitalize on scoring opportunities in the 1-0 loss to Kariobangi Sharks. He urged his teammates to display greater clinical finishing in their upcoming matches.
Homeboyz had a bitter taste of reality when they conceded a late counter-attacking goal in the dying minutes of the match. This came after a corner kick by the FKF Cup champions was intercepted by Sharks, leading to them securing all three points.
The match had been closely contested, with neither team managing to break through the opposition’s defense effectively. It wasn’t until substitute Julius Masaba capitalized on a brilliant five-pass move during a break to score the winning goal, sending Sharks’ fans into jubilation.
“Our matches against the Sharks are consistently competitive. Most of the time, we’ve been able to come out on top, but this time, they performed well and rightfully earned all three points,” Esiye told Pulse Sports.
“In the end, a draw would have been a fair result, but credit to them, they played excellently.”
Esiye is known for his precision with free-kicks and corner kicks. At one point, his free-kick found Brian Chala, who headed the ball into the net, but the goal was astonishingly disallowed for offside.
The midfielder has challenged his teammates to perform much better in their next assignment and to be more clinical if they hope to achieve their season objectives.
“It was a closely contested game. We lacked clinical finishing, but in the next game, we will be more effective than we were against Sharks, fingers crossed.”
The defeat leaves Homeboyz in ninth place with 11 points, trailing league leaders Posta Rangers by eight points.
