Gor Mahia Aims to Redeem Themselves After Disappointing First-Leg Draw with Nzoia Sugar

Gor Mahia’s head coach, Johnathan McKinstry, is motivated to redeem his team after their underwhelming 2-2 draw with Nzoia Sugar in the first leg. He is confident that his team is ready to even the score in their upcoming rematch at Sudi Stadium.

Currently leading the table, Gor Mahia is determined to maintain their position as they face the last-placed Millers. The team traveled on Friday afternoon, preparing for the match scheduled on Saturday, April 13th, with kickoff at 3 PM.

McKinstry stressed the importance of preparing the players thoroughly to ensure peak performance. “We will make sure that the boys are rehabbed and prepped well to recover from the journey,” he stated.

Reflecting on previous matches, McKinstry acknowledged the need to correct past mistakes. “We feel we owe Nzoia Sugar for the shortcomings at the start of the season,” he mentioned, recalling specific instances where the team underperformed, particularly noting the second half against Police and the first half against Nzoia Sugar. Despite conceding two goals, Gor Mahia managed a 2-2 draw in those games.

He emphasized the team’s determination to seek retribution. “We are intent on taking revenge by securing all three points in this game,” McKinstry declared.

He also commented on the challenges of facing Homeboyz, describing it as a tough, physical match reminiscent of old-school football, which they enjoyed.

“With an eight-point lead and nine games remaining, any team would be optimistic. We are heading into the next game against Nzoia in high spirits, ready to correct our mistakes and win,” he added.

As favorites, Gor Mahia is expected to overcome Nzoia, who are struggling at the bottom of the 18-team league with just 17 points. This match presents an opportunity for Gor Mahia to amend the first-round result, which ended in a 2-2 draw.

Last season, Gor Mahia won their first encounter with Nzoia 1-0, but the reverse fixture ended in a 2-2 draw. The last time Nzoia defeated Gor Mahia was in the 2021 season with a 2-0 result at Kasarani Stadium.
