Gor Mahia Assistant Coach Targets Perfect End to FKF Premier League Season
Gor Mahia’s assistant head coach, Michael Nam, has pledged a formidable conclusion to the season as the team gears up to return to the pitch after the international break. The team is scheduled to play against Sofapaka in a critical match at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos, marking their comeback.
Nam, who assumed leadership following the departure of former coach Jonathan McKinstry, has openly expressed the team’s high aspirations despite already clinching the 2023-2024 Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKF-PL) title early. “We expect to win all the remaining matches because that has always been our target. Although we have already won the cup with three matches remaining, our goal was to reach 75 points,” he confidently stated.
Gor Mahia secured the league title on May 18 with a resounding 3-0 victory against the relegation-bound Muhoroni Youth at SportPesa Arena in Muranga. This win brought Gor Mahia to 67 points, putting them 11 points ahead of their closest rivals, Tusker, with just three games left in the season.
Despite the comfortable lead, Nam articulated a strong desire to not only end the season on a high note but also to achieve the team’s pre-season goal. “We have not yet reached our target. This means we must win the nine points available to meet our season’s goal,” he noted, emphasizing the importance of maintaining high standards.
Following their next game against Sofapaka, Gor Mahia will face Talanta on June 19, culminating in a coronation match against Bidco United on June 23. Each of these games provides a chance for Gor Mahia to assert their supremacy and hit the ambitious 75-point target set at the season’s start.
“Yeah, that’s our goal. We need to set our standard and make a mark that for the 2023 and 2024 league, we finish at the 75 points mark,” Nam concluded.
