Gor Mahia Manager McKinstry Concerned About Revitalized Tusker Before Major Showdown

Gor is set to take on Tusker in their upcoming league match this season.
Johnathan McKinstry, the head coach of Gor Mahia, is alert to the potential threat posed by a revitalized Tusker in their forthcoming encounter at the Machakos Stadium next week.

Currently leading the table with 40 points from 18 matches, Gor Mahia remains undefeated. However, this record could be challenged by Tusker, who have secured victories in their last five consecutive games and climbed to third place, just nine points behind their title rivals.

Post-match, McKinstry spoke to the media, emphasizing caution and advising his team against complacency in their next game against the Brewers. He commended Tusker’s turnaround following a difficult start to the season.
“This is always a big match when we play Tusker,” McKinstry commented.

“They’ve made a strong comeback lately. They had a rough beginning to the season, but I recall discussing their situation after our first leg match. At that time, everyone was suggesting a managerial change there.

“I even mentioned post-match that teams and coaches don’t suddenly become poor. It’s unsurprising that Robert Matano and his team have got the players performing well again.”
McKinstry recognizes that Tusker will present a different challenge compared to Sharks, given their direct style of play.

“We’re bracing for another extremely challenging game next week, distinct from this week’s (against Sharks).

“Sharks prefer a pass and move, tiki-taka style, whereas Tusker is more straightforward. They aim to quickly advance the ball to their forwards. Erick Kapaito is an outstanding striker, and they have quality players.
“We have to be at our best.”

In their last meeting, the game ended with a 1-0 victory for Omala, who scored a goal despite being offside.
