Gor Mahia midfielder Austin Odhiambo faces the prospect of returning to K’Ogalo after going AWOL ahead of the Kagame Cup while trying to force a move to Europe. Odhiambo had hoped to be in Europe by now but instead finds himself potentially rejoining his teammates at Gor Mahia.
Odhiambo did not travel to Dar es Salaam, Tanzania with the rest of the Gor Mahia squad for the Kagame Cup as he sought to finalize a deal with Belgian side KAA Gent. However, a week later, and with K’Ogalo already back home following an early elimination from the tournament, the midfielder is still in Kenya, with the transfer far from being completed.
Despite efforts by Odhiambo and his representatives, Pulse Sports understands that as of Tuesday, the record Kenyan champions had not received an offer from the Belgian club, stalling his move. This setback comes after Odhiambo had an outstanding season, arguably being the player of the season for Gor Mahia and the entire FKF Premier League.
The 24-year-old midfielder scored 11 goals and provided several key assists, leading Gor Mahia to a record 21st league title. His stock rose even higher when he assisted Duke Abuya during Harambee Stars’ 1-1 draw with Burundi in the 2026 World Cup qualifiers in June. Odhiambo further enhanced his reputation by scoring two goals and providing an assist for Emerging Stars at the COSAFA Cup tournament in South Africa this month, attracting interest from clubs across the continent and beyond.
In addition to Gent, the former AFC Leopards player has garnered interest from clubs in Zambia and Rwanda, although he is believed to prefer a move to Belgium.
With the offer taking longer to materialize, Odhiambo faces a decision: rejoin his teammates in training as they prepare for the inaugural Coal City International Cup in Nigeria, or explore other options on the table.
