Harambee Starlets forward Mwanahalima Jereko Adam, widely known as Dogo, has signed with the US club Kansas City, marking a significant step in her career after a three-year stint in Turkey.
Adam has secured a contract with Kansas City through the 2025 season, with an option to extend through 2026, following her departure from Turkish Super League side Hakkarigucu Spor.
“I can’t wait to get to Kansas City and play for the Current,” Adam shared enthusiastically. “The organization has been incredible with me, and I am very excited to be part of this club.”
The 26-year-old forward has been a crucial player for the Harambee Starlets, playing a key role in helping Kenya reach the finals of the CECAFA Women’s Championship in 2019.
Adam was first selected for the U-17 national team in 2015 and quickly progressed to the senior squad. Since then, she has been a consistent presence for Kenya in major tournaments, including the recent 2024 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.
“Jereko is an exciting player that will be a great fit here,” said Kansas City head coach Vlatko Andonovski. “Her enthusiasm, skill, and work ethic are exactly what we need as we return to regular season play.”
Known as ‘Dogo’ due to her petite stature, Adam gained recognition early in her career. She began her professional journey in high school with Mombasa Olympic Ladies before joining Thika Queens in the FKF Women’s Premier League in 2018. With Thika Queens, she became the league’s top scorer in 2021 after an undefeated season.
Later that year, Adam made the move to Hakkarigucu Spor in the Turkish Super League, where she made an immediate impact, scoring 11 goals in her first 17 games and helping the team secure a fourth-place finish. Last season, she further cemented her reputation by scoring 23 goals, including two hat-tricks, before being named captain of the national team.
Adam is expected to make her debut for Kansas City when they resume regular season action against the Washington Spirit in Washington D.C. on August 25.
