Anyembe achieved his first complete start for Viborg after recuperating from an injury, providing him with crucial momentum as he prepares to join the Harambee Stars this week. Daniel Anyembe’s initial full appearance since his injury comeback saw Viborg concluding their top division season disastrously, with a 2-0 defeat to Lyngby on Sunday evening.
After being sidelined for four months, Anyembe returned to the team during their 3-0 victory over Randers as a substitute in the 70th minute and made another brief appearance in their loss to Brondby.
Playing as a right back for 64 minutes, he managed an interception, delivered a key pass, and actively moved up and down the flank before being substituted. He is hopeful of earning his sixth cap for the Harambee Stars at the upcoming Malawi Four Nations tournament, where they are set to play the host nation on Saturday, 23rd March 2024.
Anyembe’s pass almost led to a goal when he found Anosike Ementa with a deep ball, but the shot went just wide.
Lyngby scored the opening goal in the 43rd minute following a cross to the back post, where Magnus Jensen won a header that found Andreas Bjelland, who scored.
The situation deteriorated for Viborg when Ibrahim Said was sent off after a review for stepping on Marcel Rømer during a contest.
Shortly into the second half, Anyembe’s setup for Ementa nearly equalized the game before Lyngby netted their second goal from a corner that Andri Gudjohnsen headed in.
Ending the regular season in ninth place, Viborg faces the challenge of the relegation playoff to secure their position in the top division for the next season.
