Jonah Ayunga must elevate his performance at St.Mirren as the club gears up to sign Exeter’s prolific scorer James Scott on loan, with manager Stephen Robinson looking to strengthen his team with additional talent.
St.Mirren is on the verge of finalizing a deal before their upcoming match against Rangers. Manager Stephen Robinson, who previously collaborated with Scott at Motherwell, appears to have a significant influence on the decision. Despite interest from various other Premiership clubs, Robinson’s rapport with Scott has given him an advantage.
Scott moved from Motherwell to Hull in 2020 and had a loan period at Hibernian before joining Exeter last year. St Mirren has already acquired defender Elvis Bwomono as a free agent and midfielder Hyeokkyu Kwon from Celtic. This acquisition could pave the way for Exeter to re-enter the Scottish market to recruit Joel Nouble from Livingston.
Ayunga faces the challenge of maintaining his position against James Scott, a Scotland U21 international aspiring to join the Scotland first team. The Harambee Stars forward has netted two goals in 10 league games since regaining his fitness following a severe nine-month injury in February.
Ayunga, who got his initial call-up to the Kenyan national team on August 5, 2018, but didn’t play, now finds his role at St.Mirren under increased competition with the potential arrival of Scott.
