Ugandan Forward Parts Ways with Danish Side AC Horsens Just Eight Months After Leaving Gor Mahia

Former Gor Mahia forward Rogers Mugisha has parted ways with Danish club AC Horsens just eight months after joining them. Mugisha, who moved to Denmark in January after a brief but impactful stint with Gor Mahia, mutually agreed to terminate his contract with AC Horsens, as announced by the club on Monday.

Mugisha had been highly anticipated in Denmark, particularly after his impressive performances at the 2023 U20 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt, where he was one of Uganda’s standout players. His efforts on the pitch earned him the Man of the Match title in Uganda’s clash against the Central African Republic and a spot in the Best XI of the tournament’s group stages.

Despite this promising start, things didn’t pan out as expected for the talented winger in Denmark. AC Horsens, currently playing in the Danish second division after being relegated from the top tier last season, cited intense competition for offensive positions as the main reason for parting ways with Mugisha.

“We have a lot of competition for the offensive places in AC Horsens, and there was no prospect of playing time for Rogers Mugisha. Therefore, we have decided to part ways on good terms, and we wish him all the best,” said AC Horsens Sporting Director Esben Hansen.

Mugisha’s move to Horsens was initially seen as a significant step in his young career, especially after his impressive spell with Gor Mahia. The 20-time Kenyan champions had received a lucrative offer for Mugisha, leading to his early departure from the FKF Premier League just six months into his one-year contract.

At Gor Mahia, Mugisha quickly established himself as a regular starter under coach Johnathan McKinstry, playing both on the wing and in midfield. His contributions were crucial to the team until a hamstring injury in a match against Bidco United last October sidelined him for over a month. Despite this setback, Mugisha remained a key figure upon his return, further raising his profile before his eventual move to Europe.

AC Horsens, currently sitting second in the 12-team Danish second division standings with 13 points from seven matches, had hoped that Mugisha would bring the same energy and creativity to their squad. Unfortunately, with limited playing time and strong competition, the Ugandan star found it difficult to make a lasting impact.

Mugisha’s next move remains uncertain, but given his undeniable talent and previous success in both the FKF Premier League and international youth tournaments, he is expected to attract interest from clubs across Africa and Europe.
