Just weeks into his time with AFC Leopards, the team’s star forward has made an unexpected announcement about his lofty career aspirations. Arthur Gitego, the striker for AFC Leopards, has unveiled a surprising ambition that is likely to leave fans of Ingwe reeling. Since joining the Den in February, the Rwandan international has been on fire, scoring four goals in only his first two matches. He has now openly declared his intention to pursue his career in Europe shortly. Gitego’s standout performances not only led to his call-up to the Rwandan national team for friendlies against Botswana and Madagascar but have also fueled his dream of competing in Europe’s top football leagues. “I cannot express how thrilled I am whenever I score. My goal is to continue to work hard so I can have more opportunities to score for my club,” Gitego enthusiastically stated to Times Sport. Before joining AFC Leopards, the 22-year-old made a significant impact at Marines FC, where he scored 16 goals. His move to the Kenyan football giant was regarded as a significant achievement due to his promising talent and ability to find the back of the net. Nevertheless, Gitego’s recent comments have revealed his high aspirations, which seem to surpass his present engagement with AFC Leopards. “My aim is to elevate my game, and I aspire to play in Europe, where football is at a more advanced level and has the potential to transform you into a top player. It’s my dream to play there, and I know I need to work towards it,” he explained, hinting at an impending exit. This statement is likely to surprise many AFC Leopards supporters, who have been captivated by Gitego’s performances and were optimistic about his long-term dedication to the club. However, it appears Gitego is determined to realize his dream of playing in Europe. “My ambition is to move to a different team in June, but it must be a top team. I’m aiming for a higher level because I believe everything is possible through prayer, fight, belief, and waiting for the right opportunity,” he concluded. Gitego’s influence extends beyond club soccer, as he has also made his mark internationally. Having earned four caps for Rwanda’s senior national team after notable performances with the Rwanda U23 team, he has demonstrated his value. His debut in November 2023 was significant, playing a crucial role in Rwanda’s commendable effort in the qualifiers for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.
