Johnstone Omurwa Makes Comeback from Injury as Estrela Draws with Vizela

Harambee Stars defender Johnstone Omurwa made a comeback from injury, playing for 34 minutes as Estrela Amaradora drew 1-1 with Vizela in a Liga Portugal match on Saturday night.

After missing Estrela’s last four games due to injury, Omurwa was deemed fit and entered the game as a substitute. During his time on the pitch, he completed nine of his ten attempted passes, executed one clearance, won his only ground duel, and made one tackle. Estrela’s early lead came from Andre Luiz in the seventh minute, assisted by Jean Felipe, but Vizela leveled in the second half with a goal from Samu.

The match ended in a draw, leaving Estrela ninth in the standings with 17 points at the season’s midpoint. This performance is noteworthy, considering Estrela’s recent promotion to the top division last summer.

Omurwa has been a key player in Estrela’s defense when available. He has mainly played on the right side, making 11 league appearances, nine of them starts. He averages 2.7 tackles and interceptions, and 4.5 ball recoveries per game, winning 3.4 total duels per match.

Additionally, Omurwa is proactive in possession. According to FB Ref, he ranks in the 92nd percentile for carrying the ball from the back and is in the 86th percentile for take-ons, indicating his ability to initiate attacks from defensive positions.
