Kenyan Joseph Okumu showcased his defensive prowess in a hard-fought Ligue 1 match between Stade de Reims and FC Nantes.
Joseph Okumu, the Kenyan international, played a crucial role in the defense of Stade de Reims during their intense goalless draw with FC Nantes in the French Ligue 1 on Sunday at Stade Auguste-Delaune II.
Reims immediately asserted their dominance, applying significant pressure on the visiting team. Nantes, under constant attack, gave away several set-pieces, as Reims searched for the opening goal.
Reims’ superiority in the air almost bore fruit early in the game. At the 12th minute, Agbadou’s header narrowly missed the goal, sailing just over Nantes goalkeeper Lafont’s crossbar.
Okumu’s strategic defense played a significant part in helping Reims withstand Nantes’ aggressive play.
As the game progressed, it became more open with both teams launching attacks more frequently.
The match’s intensity resulted in an early casualty when Nantes’ Cömert had to be substituted by Nicolas Pallois in the 38th minute due to an injury.

In the 70th minute, Nantes was awarded a penalty, but Tino Kadewere of Zimbabwe failed to convert it.
Despite Reims’ persistent attacks, Nantes’ defense, led by a steadfast Alban Lafont in goal, remained unyielding.
In a late push, Reims almost scored in the 87th minute from a corner, but Agbadou’s header went just over the bar again.
The match continued to be gripping until the very end, with Teuma missing a crucial free-kick in the 90th minute, ultimately resulting in a draw.
