Police have defended their decision to sell only 500 tickets at high prices for an upcoming match. Kenya Police FC has clarified the reason for increasing ticket prices for their Saturday game against Gor Mahia at their home ground.
On Thursday morning, the club announced the sale of 500 tickets at high prices, with VVIP tickets priced at 3000 shillings, VIP tickets at 2000 shillings, and terrace tickets at 1500 shillings.
The move led to outrage among fans who questioned the significant price hike. In response, club CEO Chris Oguso released a statement on social media explaining the decision.
The statement indicated that the choice to hold the match at Police Sacco Stadium was made after careful consideration and in collaboration with the Football Kenya Federation (FKF). The game was initially planned for Nyayo Stadium and Ulinzi Stadium, but was moved to Police Sacco Stadium for better playing conditions and reduced injury risk.
The club also stated that limiting the crowd size was a decision made to prioritize the safety of both spectators and players.
Kenya Police FC also mentioned the need to accommodate broadcasting companies KBC and Azam, ensuring they receive the necessary viewership from televising the match live. The decision to play at Police Sacco Stadium was influenced by the exclusive live broadcast rights and airtime slots for these broadcasters.
The club reaffirmed its commitment to providing a safe and enjoyable environment for fans and players during live broadcasts and expressed anticipation for exciting matches at Police Sacco Stadium.
