Five matches are scheduled for Saturday in the FKF Cup, featuring key matchups like Kenya Police vs. Posta Rangers and Sofapaka vs. Silibwet.
This Saturday, the FKF Cup action intensifies as Kenya Police FC and Posta Rangers FC gear up for a pivotal Round of 32 battle at the Police Sacco Grounds.
After sailing through the initial rounds with solid wins, Kenya Police and Posta Rangers are set to collide in their pursuit of the domestic cup title. Police FC showcased their skills by defeating Vegpro, while Posta Rangers secured their spot by beating Wisdom Soccer Academy, setting up a clash between two of the FKF Premier League’s top-performing teams.
Currently, Posta Rangers hold the second position in the league with 39 points, closely followed by Kenya Police FC in fourth with 37 points, making this match a clash of giants. Both teams are eyeing their first FKF Cup victory, presenting a prime chance to make their mark in Kenyan football history.
This match will be their first cup encounter despite facing each other seven times in league matches, adding an extra thrill and an element of unpredictability to the game.
Kenya Police’s coach, Salim Babu, expressed confidence in his team’s depth, stating, “Our team is so talented that we can field our reserve squad and still achieve favorable outcomes in our games.”
Their last league meeting ended in a stalemate, reflecting the closely matched nature of the two teams. Historically, Police have won three times, Posta Rangers once, with three draws.
Both teams have previously come close to winning the cup, with Posta Rangers reaching the final in 2014 but losing to Sofapaka. As the league title seems increasingly likely to go to Gor Mahia, the FKF Cup offers both teams a vital chance to secure silverware this season. The rivalry was reignited earlier this season when Posta Rangers handed Kenya Police a 3-0 defeat at the Police Sacco Grounds.
Before Kenya Police and Posta Rangers take the stage, FC Talanta will play against Bungoma Stars in an earlier match at the same venue. Talanta will be looking to avoid an upset against the Division Two team, which previously ousted 2015 champions Bandari FC in a shock victory.
Saturday’s games also include Silibwet Leons vs. Sofapaka in Bomet, Compel FC vs. Kajiado FC in Bungoma, and Bomachoge Borabu vs. SS Assad in Kisii.
The FKF Cup not only brings prestige and a spot in the CAF Confederation Cup but also offers a lucrative prize, with the winner pocketing Sh2 million.
