Kenyan midfielder Alwyn Tera, representing his nation on the pitch, delivered a remarkable goal that allowed Ararat Armenia to maintain their composure in a showdown against league leaders Pyunik on a Friday afternoon.
Alwyn Luheni Tera, a Harambee Stars midfielder with just one cap to his name, made a significant impact in stoppage time, as Armenian Premier League outfit Ararat Armenia battled to secure a draw during their away encounter with Pyunik.
Tera commenced the match as a substitute while his fellow Kenyan international, Amos Nondi, earned a spot in the starting lineup, merely four days after assisting Harambee Stars in securing a 2-2 draw against Russia in Turkey.
It was Pyunik who broke the deadlock in the 28th minute, with Lucas Villela orchestrating a powerful shot into the left corner of Arsenl Beglaryan’s net after a surging run from the left flank.
However, Ararat refused to relent, continually applying pressure on the home side in their quest for an equalizer. Despite their efforts, they couldn’t find the back of the net.
This predicament left the coach with no alternative but to make tactical changes, hoping to inspire his squad to reverse their fortunes – and his decision paid off.
In the 91st minute, Tera received a precise pass from the Brazilian right-back Alemao. Alemao’s defense-splitting pass found its way to the Kenyan international, who unleashed a powerful shot from an angle that seemed impossible to score from.
This goal marked Tera’s second of the season for the Armenian giants, who currently occupy the third position in the league standings. They trail Pyunik, the league leaders, by seven points, with Pyunik accumulating 30 points from 12 matches played.
