Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga has missed out on the Golden Boot as the Qatar Stars League declares a new champion. Despite his prolific goal-scoring, Kenya international Michael Olunga could not clinch his third consecutive Golden Boot in the Qatar Stars League.
Al Duhail SC ended their season on a bittersweet note with a 4-2 loss to Qatar SC on Sunday night. This defeat placed Al Duhail in sixth position in the league standings, with 28 points, a significant drop from their prior achievements.
Al Assad emerged as the league champions, amassing an impressive 49 points.
Olunga, finishing fourth in the Golden Boot race, scored a total of 16 goals, which fell short of Akram Afif’s leading 26 goals. Brahimi claimed the Golden Boot this season, marking the end of Olunga’s two-year tenure as the league’s top scorer.
Last season, Olunga led Al Duhail to their eighth league title, complemented by victories in the Ooredoo Cup and Qatar Cup.
This season, however, was compromised by a two-month injury layoff for Olunga, which saw him sidelined during several key games. The striker sustained a hamstring injury during an Asian Champions League match against Persepolis in December.
In Olunga’s absence, Al Duhail managed eight wins, four draws, and ten losses out of 22 matches.
The Red Knights scored a total of 42 goals while conceding 45, reflecting their struggles throughout the season.
