Kenyan striker Michael Olunga is gearing up for a pivotal game with Al Duhail against the league frontrunners Al Sadd, scheduled for Friday night. Michael Olunga, who plays for Harambee Stars and Al Duhail, highlighted the vital significance of the forthcoming match in the Qatari Stars League against Al Sadd, the current leaders, set to take place on Friday, April 5, at the Abdullah bin Khalifa Stadium in Doha.
During a pre-match press briefing held yesterday at the club’s media hall, as Al Duhail looks to rebound from a 2-0 loss last Sunday, Olunga made his remarks.
Olunga stated, “We are aware of the significance of our upcoming game against Al Sadd, the top team in the standings with a remarkable performance. However, we are committed to giving our best on the pitch to secure a win over them.”
Al Duhail has had troubling form recently, securing only one victory in their last five matches.
Olunga identified several reasons for the team’s recent poor performances, including injuries to crucial players, moments of lost focus, and the competitive nature of the league.
Olunga expressed optimism about overcoming these hurdles and improving the team’s performance, saying, “There are several factors that have led to our performance dip…but we are determined to recover our form and achieve a victory while presenting ourselves as required.”
The Kenyan forward is a crucial figure for Al Duhail, having recently shone for the Harambee Stars as the top scorer with five goals, significantly contributing to their victory in the Four-Nations tournament in Malawi.
Olunga, affirming his dedication to Al Duhail’s ambitions, stated, “My role is to support the team, and the decrease in my scoring is due to tactical adjustments that require time to adapt…But we are now fully focused and determined to restore our strength in the forthcoming games.”
Currently, Al Duhail is in sixth place in the league, amassing 22 points from 18 games, whereas their adversaries, Al Sadd, are at the top with 43 points from the same number of games. Olunga’s remarkable record of 12 goals in 15 appearances this season for the champions underscores his vital contribution to the team’s efforts to ascend in the league rankings.
