Richard Odada Discusses His Challenging Time with Philadelphia Union and His Move to Denmark

Harambee Stars midfielder Richard Odada has shared insights into his challenging period at Philadelphia Union and his subsequent move to Danish second division team AalBorg in August last year.

Before joining Philadelphia Union in 2022, Odada had trials at Inter Milan, Juventus, and Parma and then signed with Serbia’s Red Star Belgrade in 2019. However, his time in Philadelphia was marked by limited first-team opportunities, leading him to mostly play for the club’s junior team in MLS Next Pro.

Seeking more playing time, Odada secured a loan move to Aalborg, where he has shined by scoring four goals and providing three assists, contributing significantly to the team’s promotion aspirations.

Reflecting on his experience in Philadelphia, Odada expressed his frustration with the lack of game time despite his hard work and determination. “It was not a good experience because you train hard and at the end of the day, you do not make a difference,” Odada told Pulse Sports.

His move to AaB has been transformative, offering him the regular senior football he sought. Despite the competition for spots in the team, Odada appreciates the push it gives him to reach new levels. “AaB has been a good experience, but it has not been easy,” he stated, emphasizing the importance of hard work and determination in securing playing time.

Odada remains open to his future, focusing on giving his best and leaving the rest to fate. His journey illustrates the resilience and dedication required to navigate the ups and downs of a professional soccer career.
