St Mirren will be without Kenyan striker Jonah Ayunga for the remainder of the season, and Harambee Stars coach Engin Firat hopes for his recovery ahead of the World Cup qualifiers. Both Harambee Stars and St Mirren have faced a setback as Ayunga will be sidelined for the season following successful knee surgery.
The situation is disappointing for both Ayunga and his club, as he was just finding his form again after a long period away due to an injury. Ayunga, who debuted for Kenya in a match against Malawi in March, had returned from a nine-month injury hiatus in December.
Despite this recent challenge, he managed to participate in 12 league games for St Mirren since his return, demonstrating his resilience and determination on the field.
St Mirren’s head coach, Stephen Robinson, announced that Ayunga had surgery for a knee injury. Although there was hope for a quicker recovery, Robinson confirmed that Ayunga would be out for the rest of the season. He clarified that this injury was to a different knee than the one that kept the 26-year-old out for most of 2023.
Ayunga joined St Mirren last summer and quickly became a key player, scoring seven goals in 24 appearances before sustaining a ruptured ACL in January. His absence is a significant loss for both the team and fans, who were eager to see him continue contributing to their season.
