“AFC Leopards’ Struggles Continue: Coach Tomas Trucha Identifies Key Issues”
AFC Leopards find themselves grappling with numerous challenges this season, with just one victory in their last ten matches despite their undeniable potential and a determined head coach at the helm.
Head coach Tomas Trucha has openly addressed the issues plaguing the team’s performance this season. Despite having a squad filled with talent and promise, their solitary win in ten matches casts a gloomy shadow over their campaign, primarily highlighting a concerning lack of goal-scoring opportunities.
The recent 3-2 defeat to Nairobi City Stars was particularly disheartening, coming on the back of two unbeaten matches and dashing hopes of a swift recovery from their struggles in the relegation zone.
This slump was briefly interrupted by a narrow victory over Nzoia Sugar at Sudi Stadium, followed by a goalless draw against Kariobangi Sharks, but these results failed to ignite the expected resurgence at the club.
In a reflective tone, Trucha, who returned to AFC Leopards in mid-October for a second stint after coaching the club in November 2020, pinpointed the root of their problems.
“Our biggest challenge remains scoring goals. In the match against City Stars, we managed only one goal from a penalty and another from a free-kick. We are not finding the net from open play,” he said. “Since my first game in charge, it’s clear that we are not creating enough opportunities. This lack of threat has been evident in our games against Bandari, Nzoia, and even Kariobangi Sharks. We lack the composure and drive needed to convert our efforts into goals.”
Despite the challenges, Trucha remains resolute and committed to his vision of helping AFC Leopards secure their elusive 13th league title.
“Nonetheless, it’s my responsibility to work with the players at my disposal, and I can see they are making progress. Even in the City Stars game, despite the outcome, I observed many positive aspects, such as our ability to create chances within the penalty area. We are committed to our project, learning from each experience, and approaching the next game with confidence and our heads held high,” he added.
Since taking charge of four games, the Czech coach’s record includes one win, one draw, and two losses, reflecting the broader trend of underperformance that has plagued AFC Leopards.
As AFC Leopards prepare to face the in-form Posta Rangers, who currently lead the table and are surpassing their traditional rivals Gor Mahia, the upcoming match represents more than just a game. It is an opportunity for AFC Leopards to turn the tide and demonstrate the solidity and goal-scoring prowess they desperately need.
