Tottenham vs Liverpool Prediction: 8/1/2025

Tottenham’s inconsistency remains a recurring issue, a challenge they have struggled to overcome in recent seasons.

Despite possessing a well-assembled squad and an experienced manager, the team frequently falls short in pivotal moments, both over the course of the season and within individual matches. Their next challenge is a formidable one, as they prepare to take on one of Europe’s most in-form teams, Liverpool.

Spurs have failed to win any of their last three Premier League games, suffering a narrow 1-0 defeat against Nottingham before being outclassed in a 6-3 loss to Liverpool. They ended the year with a frustrating 2-2 draw against Wolverhampton, a match in which Heung-Min Son missed a crucial first-half penalty.

Despite their recent struggles, Tottenham managed to progress to the semi-finals of the EFL Cup after an intense 4-3 victory over Manchester United, even though goalkeeper Fraser Forster had a shaky performance.

Their journey in the tournament has been anything but easy, having also eliminated Manchester City in the round of 16 with a hard-fought 2-1 win. Meanwhile, Liverpool has been in exceptional form since the start of the season, largely driven by Mohamed Salah, who is having one of his best statistical campaigns.

Liverpool has been nearly unstoppable across all competitions, excelling both domestically and in Europe. Their Champions League performances have been dominant, easily securing qualification for the knockout rounds. Remarkably, they have suffered only one defeat this season, a shock 1-0 loss to Nottingham at Anfield back in September.

In the Premier League, the six-time European champions currently lead the table and are on a strong run of form. Their most recent league outing saw them dismantle West Ham 5-0, marking their third consecutive victory following wins over Leicester (3-1) and Tottenham (6-3). Their cup form has been just as impressive, as they secured a 2-1 away win over Southampton in the quarter-finals.

Tottenham will be severely weakened for this clash due to multiple injury absences. Ben Davies, Odobert, Richarlison, Cristian Romero, Micky van de Ven, and first-choice goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario are all ruled out, significantly depleting the squad. The absence of key defensive players has played a major role in Spurs’ recent struggles.

Son, who has recorded five goals and six assists in the league, is currently experiencing a dip in form, as evidenced by his recent missed penalty. Additionally, summer signing Dominic Solanke, who was brought in from Bournemouth for £65 million, has yet to fully justify his price tag, managing only six goals and three assists so far.

Liverpool, on the other hand, will have most of their key players available, despite ongoing contract negotiations surrounding Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk, and Mohamed Salah. While defenders Joe Gomez and Conor Bradley remain sidelined with injuries, Ibrahima Konaté has recently returned to action.

Salah continues to be Liverpool’s standout performer, solidifying his status as a top Ballon d’Or contender with an impressive 17 goals and 13 assists in the league.

However, Liverpool’s attacking threat extends beyond Salah, with Luis Díaz (8 goals, 2 assists), Cody Gakpo (5 goals, 2 assists), Diogo Jota (4 goals), and Darwin Núñez (2 goals, 2 assists) all playing crucial roles in the team’s attacking setup. Their midfield has also been a key factor in their dominance, with Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Harvey Elliott, Wataru Endo, and Curtis Jones providing energy and creativity in the center of the pitch.

Prediction

With Liverpool’s attacking firepower and Tottenham’s defensive weaknesses, this game is likely to produce plenty of goals.

Recent trends indicate that both teams have been involved in high-scoring encounters, especially in the EFL Cup, where six of Tottenham’s last eight home games have seen both teams find the net.

Likewise, nine of Liverpool’s previous 13 away matches in the competition have featured goals from both sides, suggesting another goal-heavy contest is on the cards.

Prediction: Tottenham 1-4 Liverpool
