William Ruto moved in to his multi million shilling official Deputy Presidential palatial residence built by the government in 2013. Actually Veepee Kalonzo Musyoka was meant to do the house-warming as its first occupier but he can blame the slow contractors for the delay.
With that said, not many people have seen the inside of the beast so to speak, although photos of the building taken from outside are easily accessible on the web.
The house became a topic of conversation for a long time because of its cost, back when Mwai Kibaki was the President. It is his administration that initiated the construction.
It was completed in 2012 and handed over to the Ministry of Home Affairs ready for occupation but the outgoing Vice President Kalonzo Musyoka did not move in as it was just six months to the General Election. Construction works was meant to have been completed earlier but contractors dragged their feet.
The house in question is built on a 10 acre piece of land (a huge deal in Karen), and boasts spacious bedrooms, an office block, garage, swimming pool, gazebo, generator house, staff residence and a comptroller’s unit. You name it, the country’s second in command has it all.
The deputy president [William Ruto] reportedly holds dinners and a few guests. It was also the venue of a baby shower going by recent reports.
The house was in the headlines before the DP moved in as the government had to cough more millions to refurbish the house amid widespread outcry.
Changes were mostly done on the sitting room floor, main lounge, bedrooms and the Deputy President’s office reception area.
Ruto’s wife recently showed the inside of the house too while entertaining a guest.
This year has seen more activities at the DP Ruto’s official residence due to the forthcoming elections. He often entertains groups of leaders from different regions of the country as seeks support for Uhuru Kenyatta in 2017, and 2022 by extension.
