Country’s senior most employees, President Uhuru Kenyatta and his deputy William Ruto, are set to receive salary increments of 10 percent each from the next financial year starting July.
A peek at Treasury documents show that the two take home a combined annual income of Ksh 36.6 million, which will increase to Ksh 40.2 million from the next financial year.
However, the increment will not affect their allowances (Ksh 14.6 million) for they will remain unchanged, so no extra paid holidays.
In the last financial year (2015-2016), President Uhuru and DP Ruto received a 9.1 per cent pay hike, but there were reports that the Jubilee leaders had taken a 20 percent salary cut in 2014 to counter the fluctuating wage bill.
This news will raise eyebrows considering it arrives at a time when the National treasury is struggling to trim the public wage bill.
The country’s CEO is entitled to a monthly salary of between Ksh 1.23 to 1.65 million, while the second in command DP Ruto pockets a cool Ksh 1.04 million every month.
But there’s a but.. the adjustments will only be effected if Uhuruto and their government stay in power post the General Election slated for August 8.
Incidentally, in case NASA turns out victorious in the forthcoming polls, the President will initially have to make do with a far lower pay that will be set by by the salaries commission.
