No sex before marriage sounds more like one of those things whose practicality ended eras back. Many have forgotten that its a serious Christian teaching and couple getting jiggy prematurely was a taboo in most African traditional societies.
In the previous generations, during our parents’ younger days (that’s if you’re 30-something years old), they practiced this and most of them only had sex after getting married. If during those days a woman was found not to be a virgin on wedding night, she was seen as an outcast and was punished by the community.
That is unheard of in today’s world considering even school going children are having sex left, right and centre. Imposing the same rules would make three quarters of women outcasts.
But there are exceptions, case in point Papa Shirandula actress Kawira aka Joy Karambu who revealed in a recent interview her dating life with now husband Ephantus Wahome. The talented actress who cracks our ribs for her acting skills on the popular Citizen TV show Papa Shirandula, said she met the love of her life at an event where she was the emcee.
Joy noted that her and her also religious bae started dating and in December 2014, the tied the knot in a colourful wedding ceremony that has many still talking even today.
The actress revealed that during their courtship, she and Ephantus never had sex. She said that having been raised in Christian families, the two agreed to stay pure until marriage. They didn’t have sex even once.
But how did they manage to resist the temptations you ask? “Our salvation made all the difference,” kawira said in the SDE interview.
“we were held up by work and our schedules were different. We sat down and discussed on how to make quality time for each other when Ephantus noticed we were in a ‘long distance relationship’ though living in the same town,” added Kawira on their relationship pre marriage.
