The National Super Alliance (NASA) could lose seats in its strongholds after its politicians failed to agree on single candidates to face off with ones field by Jubilee.
As is, the coalition stands disadvantaged against JP in terms of parliamentary strength if it does not organise itself well to avoid splitting its votes.
The President Uhuru Kenyatta-led Jubilee has taken advantage of the Opposition’s internal rivalry to plot and win more seats in the forthcoming elections that is just 25 days away.
In Nairobi for example, JP is setting its focus on Embakasi East, Embakasi South, Embakasi North, Lang’ata, Westlands and Dagoretti North all previously believed to be ODM bases.
Out of the capitals 17 constituencies, Nasa’s perceived zones are Ruaraka, Kibra, Dagoretti North, Embakasi South, Westlands, Embakasi Central, Embakasi East, Lang’ata and Mathare.
The Jubilee Party on the other hand has Roysambu, Kamukunji, Dagoretti South, Embakasi North and Kasarani. Starehe, Makadara and Embakasi West can go either way.
Nasa’s votes in the Senate race are split between Edwin Sifuna (ODM) and Ramesh Gorasia (Wiper) who face nominated MP Johnson Sakaja (JP).
Uhuru has taken note of the confusion in Nasa and is presenting Sakaja as a Luhya in order to woo the community. The Luhyas are believed to be solidly in the Opposition with the legislator also being accused of not coming out clean about his tribe.
In the women rep race, Nasa has Esther Passaris (ODM) and Rahab Ndambuki (Wiper) who will square it off with incumbent Rachel Shebesh (JP).
In Langa’ta, Oscar Omoke (ODM) and Judith Sijenyi (ANC) are facing off with Nixon Korir of Jubilee. Meanwhile, incumbent Simba Arati (ODM) faces Amos Shilibwa (ANC) and Elachi (JP) for the Dagoretti North seat.
Ruaraka has nominated Senator Elizabeth Ongoro (ANC), TJ Kajwang’ (ODM) and Jubilee’s Dominic Gathecha.
In Embakasi South, incumbent Irshad Sumra (ODM) will square it out with Musili Mawathe (Wiper) and Jubilee’s Mutunga Mutungi.
During the 2013 election, the Coalition for Reforms and Democracy (CORD) lost Kamukunji, Embakasi North, Embakasi West, Kasarani, Makadara and Starehe seats narrowly as affiliates fielded candidates against each other.
In Bungoma County, incumbent Governor Kenneth Lusaka of Jubilee might just retain his seat as divided Nasa has fielded Stephen Mutoro (ANC), Wycliffe Wangamati (Ford Kenya) and Alfred Khang’ati (ODM).
In Sirisia, incumbent John Waluke (JP) is running against Moses Nandalwe (ODM), David Makali (Ford Kenya) and Namulala Wataka (ANC).
The same scenario repeats itself in places such as Lamu, Webuye East and West, Narok governor, Kisii governor, Bungoma senator, Mwingi Central, Makueni, Mbooni, Kibwezi East and Yatta MP races.
